The Video that Helped Me Become a Professional Photographer

For as long as I could remember I wanted to know how to shoot photos like a pro. I think this goes back to when I was a kid and saw my Mom, who was a wedding photographer at the time, bring home amazing shots of her newly wedded couples. This is years ago and she used a Nikon film camera to take her shots. Now, fast forward to the digital camera age and I wanted to replicate her shots but was falling short.

Like everyone else I turned to YouTube to see if I could find some video explaining to me what I was doing wrong that caused my shots to end up boring, flat and not as vibrant as the ones I had seen my Mom take.

Enter, Fro Knows Photo

I found a video of this guy in the basement of his house simply showing me how I could leverage my camera and its flash to take amazing photographs. And the rest is history.

I started following him and learning from him. I had a Panasonic Lumix G1 at the time which was the first mirrorless camera on the market. It was a fully manual camera which allowed me to put what Jared was teaching me into use. It was not an easy journey and it took almost two years before I mastered all the techniques that helped me become a professional photographer.

I fell in love with what I could do with the camera. The shots were getting better and betterthat I was producing. I didn’t stop there. I started learning how to edit my photos after shooting them in order to take them to the next level. Jared’s RAW edit videos were instrumental in helping pave that path for me as well.

Growing Together

It has been a fun journey and seeing both of us grow in our own right. Jared now is an online celebrity in the world of photography and has 1 million+ followers on YouTube. I still get his email newsletters and watch his videos. He has inspired millions to pursue photography and make it their profession. And that is admirable.

So when it came time to start learning about how to shoot video I looked no further and to my surprise he had created a digital video course that is helping me hone in my skills as a videographer too.

You can access his video course by clicking on the image below:

Who knows. I might start a parallel career as a professional videographer some day or try to incorporate what I learn from him into my own projects. I know one thing though; it has been a fun ride and I think I’m going to stay on a little longer.

This is Not a Photograph!

Every once in a while I come across art on social media that takes my breath away. In this case, I was blown away by what I was seeing. I’m not a fan of hyper realism art by any means but I can appreciate the skill. However, CJ Hendry takes that notion to another level.
